We've all been told at some point that we should drink 8 glasses of water a day, eat breakfast to lose weight, or go for a walk to be healthy. Unfortunately, these are just three examples of the many health myths that exist in our society today. This blog post will discuss 5 more common ones and debunk them once and for all! Read on to learn the truth behind the top myths about health. 1. Coffee is Bad for Your Liver First, on our list of health myths let's talk about coffee and whether or not it's detrimental to your health. If you love drinking 1, 2, or even 3 cups of coffee a day, are you destined for issues? The short answer is no: coffee can be good for you. A study by Harvard Medical School found that people who drank more than a cup of coffee per day had a better liver function and fewer markers of the disease nonalcoholic steatohepatitis. 2. Carbs Always Create Fat Next, when it comes to health and wellness, carbohydrates have a bad reputation for helping to create fat cells. If carbs are the enemy, then why do they make up over half of your diet? The truth is that different types of carbohydrates affect you differently when it comes to weight. What type of carbs are good and what type of carbs are bad? It depends on what you're trying to do. For example, what if you're watching your weight, but need a little more energy to get through the day? This is where good carbohydrates can come in. They provide just enough fuel for you without adding any fat cells. What about when it comes to workout days and carb-loading? Good carbohydrates should be eaten at this 3. Cardio is Always the Answer Chances are, at some point in your life someone told you that running was the ultimate exercise. If you like running, or jogging briskly, by all means, enjoy yourself! However, if you're like a lot of people, who find running dreadsome, there's good news. Cardio-type exercises, like running, aren't the only way to stay healthy. Instead, try out other forms of exercise. If you're not feeling it, chances are there's an activity elsewhere in your community that will be just perfect for you! There are plenty of options available - so don't limit yourself to cardio exercises alone! The key is finding what works for YOU. As long as you stay active, getting regular physical activity should come naturally. 4. More Calories equals High BMI Your body mass index doesn't just correlate with the number of calories you eat. Instead, the timing and type of calories are really what you should pay attention to. If you're worried about overeating at breakfast time, think again. People who routinely consume more calories in the morning are less likely to be obese and have a lower BMI than those who don't. In other words, if it's an option for you, eating a big breakfast will help keep your weight down. Overcome Health Myths We hope this article helped debunk some of the health myths you might have heard about how to stay healthy. Remember, you don't need to do exercises you hate, and it's ok if running or jogging isn't your thing! As long as you're getting enough exercise each week there are no wrong choices. Remember that coffee and carbs can be good for us too. So go ahead, enjoy both today. Enjoy knowing that with a little effort on your part, you can keep feeling great, while staying true to yourself.
